How Worldray
handles your data.
Effective date · 27 April 2026
Who we are
Worldray (“Worldray”, “we”, “us”, “our”) is a UK-based audio and home cinema review site operated by Darren Smith as a sole trader. We are based in the United Kingdom. The data controller for the purposes of UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 is:
Darren Smith, trading as Worldray
Email: signal@worldray.com
Worldray does not have an office address or telephone number. All contact, including privacy-related enquiries and data subject access requests, should be sent to the email above.
What this policy covers
This policy explains what personal data Worldray collects when you visit worldray.com, why we collect it, how we use it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and what rights you have over your data.
It applies to anyone who visits the site or contacts us via the email address above. It does not apply to third-party sites we link to, including Amazon.co.uk — those services have their own privacy policies that you should read separately.
What data we collect
Server logs
When you visit the site, our hosting provider (Hostinger) automatically receives standard web request data, including:
- Your IP address
- Your browser user agent (browser type and version, operating system)
- The URL you visited
- The referrer URL (the page you came from, where applicable)
- The timestamp of your visit
This is the standard data any web server receives. We do not actively collect or store any further information about you.
Cookies
Worldray itself does not set any cookies. The site is statically generated and does not use accounts, sessions, or any state that requires cookies on our end. The only cookies you may receive while using Worldray are set by Amazon when you click through an affiliate link, as described below.
Amazon Associates affiliate tracking. When you click an Amazon affiliate link on Worldray and proceed to amazon.co.uk, Amazon may set cookies on your browser to track whether your visit results in a purchase, so that Worldray can be credited the affiliate commission. These cookies are set by Amazon, not by Worldray, and are governed by Amazon’s privacy policy at amazon.co.uk/privacy. We have no access to or control over them.
Analytics
Worldray uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views and visits in aggregate. It was chosen specifically because it is one of the most privacy-respecting analytics tools available — designed from the start to work without cookies or user identification.
What it does not do. No cookies. No localStorage. No IP fingerprinting. No cross-site tracking. No user profiling. No advertising use. No data sold to third parties.
What we can see in the dashboard. Aggregate counts only: top pages, top referrers, top countries (no city-level data), device categories, and browser families.
What we cannot see. Anything that ties activity back to an individual visitor. The dataset is anonymous by design.
If you prefer not to be counted, most ad-blockers and browser privacy extensions will block the analytics beacon — the site does not require analytics to function and will work normally either way.
Information you send us
If you email signal@worldray.com, we receive your email address and the contents of your message. We use that information solely to respond to your query and do not use it for any other purpose.
Why we collect this data and our lawful basis
Under UK GDPR, we must have a lawful basis for processing your personal data. The bases we rely on are:
- Legitimate interests for server log data. Logs are necessary to operate the site securely, diagnose problems, prevent abuse, and understand basic usage patterns. The amount of data is minimal and the impact on you is low.
- Consent, where we ever introduce optional cookies that go beyond essential functionality. We will display a cookie banner and request your consent before any such cookies are set.
- Contract or legitimate interests for emails you send us. We process your email content to respond to your request and to keep a record of correspondence.
Who we share your data with
Worldray does not sell or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes. The only third parties involved in handling data through the site are:
- Hostinger, our hosting provider, which processes server logs on our behalf.
- Cloudflare, our analytics provider, which receives anonymous aggregate page view data via its beacon script. No personally identifiable information is shared.
- Amazon, when you click through to amazon.co.uk via an affiliate link. Amazon then handles your visit under their own terms and privacy policy.
We do not pass your email address or any other information you send us to any third party.
How long we keep your data
- Server logs are retained for a limited period in line with our hosting provider's standard practices.
- Email correspondence is kept for as long as is reasonable to respond to your enquiry and maintain a record. The email is retained in our inbox indefinitely unless you request deletion.
Your rights under UK GDPR
You have the following rights over personal data we hold about you:
- Right of access — to ask for a copy of the data we hold.
- Right to rectification — to ask us to correct inaccurate data.
- Right to erasure — to ask us to delete data, subject to certain limitations.
- Right to restriction — to ask us to limit how we use your data.
- Right to data portability — to ask us to provide your data in a machine-readable format, where applicable.
- Right to object — to object to processing based on legitimate interests.
- Right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK supervisory authority. The ICO website is ico.org.uk.
To exercise any of these rights, email signal@worldray.com with your request. We will respond within one calendar month.
Children's privacy
Worldray is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, email signal@worldray.com and we will delete it.
Affiliate disclosure
Worldray is a participant in the Amazon EU Associates Programme, an affiliate advertising programme designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.co.uk. As an Amazon Associate, Worldray earns from qualifying purchases.
When you click an affiliate link on Worldray and make a purchase on Amazon, Amazon may pay us a small commission at no extra cost to you. This does not influence our reviews — we only recommend gear we’d put in our own rooms.
Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time, particularly if we add new tools or change how we handle data. The effective date at the top of this page reflects the latest version. Material changes will be flagged at the top of the page for at least 30 days.
